01: The Story

Why I Started Yeti Digital

I've spent a decade watching businesses pour money into marketing that didn't move the needle, ads that ran out when the budget did, websites that looked great but couldn't be found, SEO strategies built around tactics that Google stopped rewarding years ago.

What I kept seeing was a gap. Local businesses, the kind that are the backbone of communities like Chase, needed search expertise that was current, honest, and actually connected to their business goals. Not a retainer that paid for monthly reports nobody read. Not a one-size strategy built for e-commerce applied to a local plumber.

Yeti Digital is my answer to that gap. I built it around two principles: do the work that actually moves rankings, and be straight with clients about what's working and what isn't.

The name comes from where I work. Chase, BC sits in the Thompson River Valley, Shuswap country. It's mountain country. Yeti felt right.

02: Experience

A Decade of Watching Search Evolve

SEO in 2015 looks nothing like SEO in 2025. I've been doing this long enough to have lived through every major shift, and to know which fundamentals never change.

  1. ~2015

    Learning the Fundamentals

Started with on-page optimization, keyword research, and link building during an era when SEO was largely about technical execution. Built a foundation in how search engines crawl, index, and rank content.

  2. ~2017

    Going Deep on Local

Shifted focus toward local search, Google Maps, citations, Google Business Profile (then called Google My Business). Realized local businesses were dramatically underserved by SEO advice written for large brands and e-commerce.

  3. ~2019

    Riding the Updates

Lived through multiple core Google algorithm updates, Medic, BERT, broad core updates, and learned how to diagnose ranking shifts, adapt content strategies, and build the kind of authority that holds through volatility.

  4. ~2021

    The Quality Era

Google's emphasis on Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness reshaped what "good content" meant. Developed a content methodology built around genuine expertise signals rather than keyword density.

  5. ~2023

    The Shift Nobody Saw Coming

ChatGPT's mainstream arrival changed everything. Watched AI Overviews begin appearing in Google, then saw ChatGPT become a primary search tool for millions of users. Started building frameworks for AI search optimization before most agencies had heard the term GEO.

  6. 2024–Present

    Where Search Is Now

Launched Yeti Digital to bring AI search optimization to local businesses, the segment most overlooked in the GEO conversation. Combined a decade of SEO fundamentals with current AI visibility strategy, and integrated AI tools into my own workflow to deliver deeper analysis and faster execution.

03: How I Work

I Work with AI. That's Not a Shortcut, It's an Advantage.

A lot of solo operators worry that saying they use AI tools makes them sound less credible. I think the opposite. AI tools make my analysis faster, my content research deeper, and my competitive auditing more thorough than what a traditional solo practitioner could deliver a few years ago.

Here's what that actually looks like in practice:

Deeper Competitive Analysis

I use AI to analyze competitor content, identify gaps in their authority signals, and map the exact questions they're failing to answer. This takes hours manually, AI compresses it to minutes, and I apply my decade of experience to interpret what actually matters.

Smarter Content Strategy

AI helps me identify the specific questions your customers are asking across search engines and AI platforms simultaneously. I build content strategies around those questions, so your content works for Google rankings AND AI citations.

Faster Technical Auditing

Technical SEO audits that used to take a full day I can now complete more comprehensively in a fraction of the time. Schema implementation, crawl analysis, site structure review, AI handles the heavy lifting, I make the judgment calls.

AI Visibility Testing

I can run your business through 20+ AI prompts across ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity and systematically analyze the results. This kind of prompt-testing-at-scale is only practical with AI assistance, and it tells you exactly where you appear and where your competitors are beating you.

What AI doesn't replace: judgment, strategy, and the experience to know which signals Google actually rewards. I've been doing this for 10 years. I know the difference between a tactic that looks good in a report and one that actually moves your rankings. AI is the tool. Experience is the filter.

05: My Take

What I Actually Believe About Local SEO in 2026

"Most local businesses are leaving the Map Pack to chance."

I regularly audit GBPs that haven't been touched in two years. Wrong categories. No photos. Zero posts. No review responses. The business is paying for ads, but their free, most powerful local marketing asset is completely ignored. A fully optimized GBP consistently outperforms paid ads for local intent searches, and it doesn't stop working when the budget runs out.

"AI search is the biggest opportunity local businesses aren't talking about."

While everyone debates whether AI is "killing SEO", local businesses are sitting on an enormous first-mover advantage. Most of your direct competitors have zero AI search optimization. The businesses that build authority for AI citation now will be the ones ChatGPT and Gemini recommend in two years when AI search is table stakes. The window to build that advantage cheaply is right now.

"Cheap SEO is expensive."

I've cleaned up a lot of messes left by low-cost SEO services. Spammy links that triggered penalties. Content that ranked briefly then tanked. GBPs suspended for policy violations from aggressive keyword stuffing. Bad SEO doesn't just fail to work, it actively sets you back and costs more to fix than it cost to build. I'd rather be honest with you about what's achievable and deliver it, than overpromise and underperform.

06: Right Fit

Who I Work Best With

I'm selective about who I take on, not because I'm turning away business, but because I want every client I work with to get real results. Here's who gets the most from working with Yeti Digital.

βœ“ Great Fit
  • Local or regional businesses serving a specific geographic area
  • Business owners who want to understand what's being done (not just outsource and forget)
  • Businesses that can commit to at least 3 months (local SEO takes time, short engagements don't produce meaningful results)
  • Service businesses: trades, professional services, hospitality, health, retail
  • Businesses in smaller or mid-sized markets where local competition isn't dominated by national chains with unlimited budgets
  • Owners who value straight talk over polished sales decks
βœ— Might Not Be the Right Fit
  • Businesses looking for overnight rankings (anyone who promises that is selling you something)
  • Large enterprises or national brands needing a full agency team
  • E-commerce businesses with primarily national or international audiences
  • Businesses that won't engage with the process at all, some involvement from your side (photos, approvals, local knowledge) produces better results
  • Anyone wanting a guarantee of specific ranking positions, Google controls the rankings, not me

If you're not sure whether we're a good fit, the free discovery call exists exactly for that. No pressure either way.
